Grr. I got a cuecat, and installed the Linux drivers.
I then dropped to console as required, and ran read_cuecat.
If I run it over a barcode, it doesn't do anything - just sits there until I hit escape.
Any advice?

Don't bother with the drivers, just use the decoder that reads from stdin.

The read_cuecat program works only extremely erratically. Also, is there -any- way to use it under X?

Yes. Rather than using the linux drivers which want to trap the console or something, just use the program that reads from stdin (decode, not read_cuecat). There are two seperate cuecat packages, I guess I didn't make that clear in the last post.
