Pluses:
- Gives me suprahuman powers of focusing during class
- Lets me stay awake during 0900 linal and other similar monstrosities
Minuses:
- Makes me forget to eat.
I've lost twelve pounds over the last month because I haven't been eating regularly. It's part that the food here is even worse than it was last year (apparantly the head chef quit at the start of the year and they're still flailing around a bit), but it must largely be the adderall...this isn't healthy
they put me back on ritalin (concerta this time), guess I'll see how that works after break. can't afford to drop adderall this week, linal makeup tomorrow and a&d exam friday
need real food...

Date: 2002-10-02 01:40 pm (UTC)The secret to keeping a healthy diet on adderall (if you want to eat) it to keep yourself hydrated. Adderall is a diuretic (i'm sure you've figured this out by now). Drink plenty of juices, milk and other "thick" beverages. Not only will this keep your fluid levels in check, but drinking also activates receptors in your stomach that make you hungry when you should be and actually make foods taste better when you eat. It's kind of like a little boost to the system. It especially needed because adderall, unlike ritalin (with the exception of time-released stuff like concerta), maintains relatively constant blood concentration.
The other thing you can do is eat before you take it. It's a good idea to wait at least a half hour before you take it to allow the food to start digesting in your intentines (an hour is probably better, depending on how much you eat).
Watch out for drinking or eating things that are too acidic. Adderall can irritate the stomach lining especially in conjunction with acidic or spicy foods... this includes sodas. You can drink 'em. Just don't subsist on them alone. : )
