$87.50 for a fricking PAPERBACK compsci book!
At least I already have the books for most of my classes...

Some of my friends here had to pay $44.50 for a "book" that was quite literally nothing more than a bunch of Xeroxed pages from other books.

I had to do that. Some of the papers in it were by my professor, and he went on a long rant about how he wasn't seeing a cent from (130 of) us buying it, but he couldn't just give them to us for copyright reasons.

If you think that's bad, you should pay the markup we do for importing books from the US, here in the UK ;o)

Seriously, though, books that are going to be useful as reference are worth the money, even the price does seem a little extortionate; I'm wishing I'd shelled out more for the hardcover editions of some of mine (like Stroustrup 3rd edition) because they're getting a little dog-eared (and I don't even look at that one much nowadays).

This semester, my husband and I spent $530US on our books. I think we bought 8 books total.
