Some impressions of San Francisco
Aug. 8th, 2000 09:20 pmIt's hilly. Very hilly. I've been walking since around 10:00 AM (Pacific time), and my legs are going to fall off.
The food is awesome. We had the best lo mein and noodle soup I've EVER had in this tiny noodle house in Chinatown, and damn good crab in a place on Fisherman's Wharf earlier today.
Speaking of Fisherman's Wharf...Lame as it may sound, the various historical ships on the piers near it are pretty cool, especially the WWII diesel sub. Lots of nifty dials and levers and switches. :P
The hotel is pretty good...nice soft beds, analog phone lines (can only connect at 28.8Kbps, but eh), GREAT view out the window.
I met my cousin**nth-degree Marcia, her husband Rick, and their daughter Annie yesterday. Nice people, if a bit shallow and (in Annie's case) a tad empty-headed.
The flight was less than fun...my laptop battery died halfway in. But I had enough books, although I finished all my new Nivens :(.
I like SF a lot...wouldn't mind in the least living here one day. No, not at all. We climbed Telegraph Hill yesterday...INCREDIBLE view, and really nice houses built into it. The street they're on isn't really anything more than a set of steps, but still counts as a street...what other city in the world has stuff like that? :P
Hmm, what else...ohyeah, laptops rule.
Uh, more if I think of anything later - I think we're having Japanese tonight.

Good food!
Well, if you're looking for a REALLY good resaurant, on Fisherman's Wharf is a restaurant called Scoma's. That is a really good restaurant. I highly reccommend it (I was in Francisco last week)
Just, there's no reservations, and it gets full fast, so get there a bit early (I think we got there 6 Francisco time, and we got seated immediately..about 20 minutes later, and the place was packed)
Just a small recommendation :)
