g'argh! I just realized that thursday is her birthday, and I'd like to buy her something, but with midterms, there's no time to ask. Nngh.

Women love flowers. It might not be exactly what she wanted, but it's still a wonderful show of caring. If you want to, I bet you could get someone to deliver them to her during one of her classes... :)

well...

speaking from experience... while they adore flowers, it's not ALWAYS the safest thing to do... especially when feelings on both sides aren't really sure.

Or maybe I just overdid it with a dozen red roses out of the blue.

If you cared, you'd invent the ten seconds to ask.
For the amount of time you sit and prepare a few simple words for an occasion, actually saying them takes much, much less time. Ten seconds is inconsquential enough, that if it were to turn into a short thirty second conversation, you wouldn't have to worry so much still.

Only problem with this idea is that duinlas's comment applies...we don't have any kind of actual relationship yet, and I don't want to spoil things before they've even started. :P

ARGH, give her flowers, but don't go overboard. Give her a single pink rose or lilly with a few sprigs of babysbreath and a pretty ribbon, complete with a card. And actually say something in the card, don't just scribble a name. Its not overboard, its beautiful, its thoughtful, and it can mean everything or nothing.

You are friends at least right? guy friends can give teddy bears (smooshy ones) or CDs(that's if you know what kind of music she likes).
