<3 IBM Support

IBM: "IBM support, how may I help you?"
Me: "I have a Thinkpad T40, with serial number blah-blah-blah. My disk is dying."
IBM: "You sure?"
Me:"Yes, I get SMART errors and now my disk driver is complaining too."
IBM: "Okay, we'll send you a new disk. What's your address again?"

No bullshit. Awesome. Give them love if you're buying a PC laptop, folks.

It's only because Thinkpad hard drives fail so damn often :)

Wow. That's good support.

When I had a dying hard drive, Dell told me to defrag. Then they told me to run their Windows diagnostic test. And this one on a known-bad model of hard drive.

(Sadly, that wasn't as bad as one time I had to convince a coworker that a drive was dying. "You sure?" "Yes, it just deleted a chunk of php and broke the web calendar, and it's making a horrendouse clunking noise." "You sure?" "No, I'm making this up because I think restoring from backups is fun. Yes, of course, I'm sure.")

I miss the days when Dell was like that.

Me: My CPU is dying.
Dell: Can you run the diagnostics software?
Me: No, I don't have Windows, I have Linux.
Dell: We don't support Linux. But you think it's the CPU?
Me: Yeah.
Dell: New one will be there tomorrow morning.

It'll be cool once Lenovo finally takes over everything. You'll need to know Chinese.
