May. 25th, 2004 05:22 amOn a tip from my father, I've been reading Andrey Kurkov's Death and the Penguin and Penguin Lost. Finished the former, enjoyed it immensely, and was halfway through the latter (and enjoying it immensely) before I noticed that it was past five in the morning and that I ought to be sleeping.
Current favorite line: "Here's to the victory of Russian arms! And as both sides are using them, there's bound to be."
I'll probably finish Penguin Lost tomorrow and then start in on the Victor Pelevin novels (The Clay Machine-Gun and The Life of Insects) that he also gave me.
First, though, sleep, I think.
(I'm not quite sure why Dad's been on a post-Soviet Russian novel spree lately, but the side-effects (i.e. books to read after he finishes 'em) certainly are pleasant)
