(no subject)
Aug. 25th, 2001 04:24 pmSeeing as I don't have anything to do now, I'll post a summary of this first week at college.
Did the weeklong Writing and Thinking Workshop, required english-ish course. Was not too bad, although I'm heartily sick of long journal (not LJ!) entries now. Met some interesting people, I guess, but met more outside of class...the other people in my dorm are generally very cool, with the exception of the pet monkey who is Drew's roommate. He really is as annoying as a damned monkey.
Girls...no luck yet, but seeing as Will, an equally geeky d00d who lives across the hall got one as of yesterday, there's hope for me.
Got a *lot* of practice in terminating CAT5 when we volunteered to help CMS (Computer and Media Services) wire the new senior housing. Got a bit boring after a while, but I now know I can punch down a cable to a jack in a wallplate in almost complete darkness with a flashlight whose battery is rapidly dying with only the impact tool and my swiss army knife, which will hopefully be replaced with a Leatherman soon.
Had a lot of very, very boring orientation meetings; I just brought magus and did my homework during them. Speaking of homework, I found that the best place for concentrating is in the noisy snack bar in the student union. Go figure.
Played Capture the Flag across the whole campus this morning; was pretty cool except when I got tagged, I fell down a hill and scratched up my legs nastily.
Have I mentioned that my dorm room has a balcony? It does. It's very cool, literally and figuratively.
The food isn't too bad as a whole - generally just past edible, but sometimes it's actually tasty. The crappy part is that none of the pizza places or chinese places deliver until after five, and I don't feel like walking three miles into town, and town trips don't start until tomorrow. I can wait until dinner, I guess, but...annoying.
Ohyeah, also, there's a pool table in the student union. Much fun is had there now, especially as Matt bought a new cue for it out of his own pocket. It kicks the old cues' asses. The table still hates Drew, though - his shots tend to levitate out of pockets. It's very strange. There's also a STUN Runner arcade game from 1989 which we can play quarteless there - THAT'S fun. I had never played that before, and I don't know why.
Controls are a tad strange, but I'm getting used to it.
The weather up here is beautiful...it's not too hot and when it does rain, it's brief and usually while we're iinside. Very civilized.
I'm generally having a great time. Blee.
Also, I love this song far too much.
