solaris reinstall
reapplying the big patch
if it doesn't work, at least I know which subpatch to back out.
after that I can start installing goodies, then move bind, then create users, then do mail, eventually change the portforwarding and give iris a well-deserved rest.

Kicked the crap out of autofs, which was preventing writes to /home
