My money is on the common element being angsty teens with no sense of tact, respect, honesty, or integrity. Of course, I could be totally off here, but that was the major problem with many of the places Ive been.

I've been in alot of irc communities. Gods have I. The ones that work are the ones that don't have a "government". This means that alot of these rpg channels and things die becuase there's what I call "politics". People let personal fights and feelings get in the way of running the channel. The ones that do work are the ones where a bunch of friends just come and go, and they only let the people they like in. Even if they all go thier seperate ways for awhile, they come back to eachother... Or stay in contact with eachother. I think lj has helped this for me in some cases. I also think that giving a rat's ass about the people keep me emailing them, or trying to find them in other channels.
Or maybe I'm just full of shit.
